This course is recommended for individuals with two or more years's experience who receive a textbook and workbook containing examples/problems, ruler and calculator. This course provides preparation for plant data collection and vibration analysis, and is partial preparation for the certification examination for the Vibration Analyst Category II. Vibration Institute instructors are Category IV certified and experienced vibration analysts. Instructors are subject to change without notice.

This course is for those individuals with three or more years' experience and who routinely use a data collector. This training course is also partial preparation for the Vibration Analyst Category III Certification Exam. All Vibration Institute instructors are Category IV certified and experienced vibration analysts. Course Instructors are subject to change without prior notification.

Category I Vibration Analysts are qualified to perform a range of single channel machinery vibration condition monitoring and diagnostic activities including data acquisition on predetermined routes, machine steady state testing to predefined procedures, and comparison of readings against pre-established alert settings. Minimum Recommended Experience: 6 months Minimum Training Hours: 30 hours

Category II Vibration Analysts are qualified to perform basic vibration analysis using single-channel instruments according to established procedures, set-up instruments, and maintain a database of results. Minimum Recommended Experience: 18 months Minimum Training Hours: 60 hours (Category I + 30 hours)

Category III Vibration Analysts are qualified to establish, direct, and\or perform programs for condition monitoring and diagnostics of machines including spectral, waveform, and orbit analysis. Category III certified Vibration Analysts shall be qualified to perform minor corrective actions involving operating deflection shapes, single-plane balancing, and diagnostic testing. Minimum Recommended Experience: 36 months Minimum Training Hours: 90 hours (30 hours + Categories I & II)

Category IV Vibration Analysts are individuals who understand the theory of mechanical vibrations, advanced vibration analysis techniques, and signal analysis. They shall be qualified to direct condition monitoring programs, perform major diagnostic efforts, and perform and recommend corrective actions and design modifications. Minimum Recommended Experience: 60 months Minimum Training Hours: 130 hours (40 hours + Categories I, II, & III)

This one-day pre-conference course will include the basics of induction, synchronous, wound rotor, and DC motor design and cover the most common failure modes associated with each. A discussion on how a combination of static and dynamic testing, including insulation testing, vibration analysis, visual inspections, and electrical motor diagnostics, can be used to detect these failures quickly and accurately and will include several case studies.

This pre-conference one-day course will present methods to identify natural frequencies prior to design and after manufacture and installation. Testing and modeling methods will be discussed. Methods for problem solution including changing natural frequencies, adding damping, and force reduction will be discussed.

This course is recommended for individuals with less than two years experience and prepares attendees to perform a range of simple channel machinery vibration condition monitoring and diagnostic activities. It also serves as partial preparation for the Category I Vibration Analyst Certification Examination. All Vibration Institute instructors are Category IV certified and experienced vibration analysts. The Vibration Institute will hold the 2012 Vibration Institute Training Conference in beautiful and historic Williamsburg, VA on June 20-22, 2012 at The Woodlands Hotel and Suites. The Conference includes two one-day pre-conference training courses, four-day IMV Training Course, 20+ concurrent educational sessions, Exhibit Hall and networking opportunities with your peers.

Individuals certified to Category I are required to understand basic shop and field balancing concepts and be able to perform vibration analysis, conduct single-plane balancing, calculate balance sensitivity and phase lag, and evaluate balance results against ISO balancing standards.. Minimum Recommended Experience: 12 months Minimum Training Hours: 32 hours

Individuals are qualified to perform shaft alignment procedures on industrial machinery using the reverse radial and rim-face method on a two element drive system according to established and recognized procedures. Minimum Recommended Experience: 12 months Minimum Training Hours: 24 hours
