VI Headquarter Update
By Michael Long, Executive Director

Hello Vibration Institute members. My name is Michael Long, and I joined the Vibration Institute in July as Executive Director.

I have been in association management for 16 years and have been an Executive Director for 8 of those, most recently having been President of BeeLong Group, a full-service association management and consulting firm where I served as Executive Director for 3 different associations. I earned a Master in Public Administration in Nonprofit Management from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and have been certified by the Association of Society of Association Executives with the CAE (Certified Association Executive) certification credential.

I am thrilled to have joined the Vibration Institute because of its breadth of training and certification programs. In working with the Executive Committee, Dave Corelli, President, Dave Szrom, Treasurer-Secretary, and Bill Pryor, Executive Vice President, we have identified two key goals for me to focus on with three core strategies to achieve these goals.

  1. Grow Attendance Numbers for Programs and Increase Certifications
  2. Increase Long-Term Member and Customer Value
Improve Operational Efficiencies and Consistency –
There are primarily three things I will strive to achieve. First, staff will strive to improve operations through continuous improvement processes to provide better customer service and increase overall member and customer satisfaction. Additionally, we will be working to improve financial tracking and reporting for better strategic utilization of resources, and will also be putting focus into developing a comprehensive policy and procedure manual for improved operational consistency.

Elevate and Expand Training Materials –
Training and certification is the heart beat of the Vibration Institute. Better training materials mean attendees learn more, have a better experience and perceive greater value for their investment, and lead to more analysts achieving and maintaining certification. One of the primary areas of focus for our training programs will be investment into more video demonstrations.

Improve Marketing and Branding Efforts –
While the Vibration Institute is well-known and has a strong reputation, we will work toward improving our digital footprint of website and social media to more easily found by those searching for vibration analyst training and will work on expanding our online content to strengthen our position of expertise within the industry.
Of course, there will be many other initiatives and activities I will be involved in, but these will be my primary focus areas to start. I look forward to meeting most of you in Rochester in June 2017 for the Annual Training Conference, and if you wish to reach me, you can do so at or by phone at 630-654-2254. Please also feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn.

Kind regards,
Michael Long, MPA, CAE
