Vibration Institute Initiatives

The Vibration Institute is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the dissemination of practical information on evaluating machine behavior, particularly concerning the science of vibration and acoustic analysis and measurement. In an effort to connect more meaningfully with the academic community, the Vibration Institute has developed the following programs:

2016 Annual Training Conference Call for Academic Papers

The Vibration Institute will have an Academic Track at the 2016 Annual Training Conference, June 14-16, 2017 in Rochester, NY. The track is dedicated to university research, student projects and instructional practices. All papers (10 pages or less) will be peer reviewed by two or more reviewers, then published in the Conference Proceedings. Abstracts are due November 30, 2016, with final papers due by May 1, 2017.

Academic Grant Program

The Vibration Institute’s Board of Directors has authorized a $10K Academic Grant Program for the 2016-2017 academic year. This program will support educational or research efforts of faculty and students that align with the Institute’s endeavors, particularly for projects which are likely to benefit the condition monitoring community. Proposals should be prepared according to program guidelines by March 15. Funding decisions are anticipated by April 15.

Standards Development

The Vibration Institute and Acoustical Society of America (ASA) would like to invite all interested parties to participate in the development of an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) industry standard pertaining to shaft alignment methodology concerning large industrial rotating apparatus. The Vibration Institute is forming a working group to undertake the task of creating a standard with broad industry acceptance which will cover basic technical information on machinery shaft alignment. The participation deadline was January 31, 2014, thank you for your interest.
