The Vibration Institute is accredited by ANSI (American National Standards Institute) to ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 Conformity Assessment – General Requirements for Bodies Operating Certification of Persons. The Vibration Institute is one of only two certifying bodies in the world that have achieved accreditation for certification of personnel as vibration analysts. As a result of this accreditation, the Vibration Institute is considered a “third party” in the eyes of the ISO.

The Vibration Institute has selected ISO 18436-2 Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics of Machines – Requirements for Training and Certification of Personnel – Part 2: Vibration Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics as our Body of Knowledge and as our testing standard during certification examinations. As an accredited, certifying body issuing vibration analyst certificates in accordance with the ISO 18436, we are required to demonstrate compliance with ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024, ISO 17024, ISO 18436-1, and 18436-2.

ISO 18436-2, Section 5.4 Experiences states that a candidate who wishes to take a Category III or IV exam “requires previous certification at the lower level.” The definition in ISO 17000 Conformity Assessment – Vocabulary and General Principles in Section 5.5 defines certification as “third-party attestation related to products, processes, systems, or persons.” As a result, the ISO only recognizes certification if the certificate is issued by a third party.  The Vibration Institute is required by its accreditation to only accept a third-party certification as a prerequisite to any exam.

Canadian Machinery Vibration Association

The Canadian Machinery Vibration Association (CMVA/ACVM) is a non-profit association whose fields of interest include machinery dynamics and all aspects of condition monitoring and predictive maintenance of machinery, especially vibration monitoring and analysis.
CMVA objectives include:

•  Advance scientific, engineering, and technical knowledge in the fields of interest;
•  Gather and share information relating to the fields of interest which are useful to the individual and
beneficial to the general public;
•  Encourage the development and application of the fields of interest through presentations, discussions, publications, courses of instruction,  personnel certification or other means; and
• Encourage the development and application of Canadian and international standards of practice for the fields of interest and for personnel certification.
